About this condition

IgA nephropathy, also known as Berger’s disease, is a kidney disorder where a protein called immunoglobulin A (IgA) builds up in the kidneys. This buildup causes inflammation that can damage the kidneys’ ability to filter waste from the blood. Symptoms may include blood in the urine, swelling in the hands and feet, and high blood pressure. The disease progresses slowly in many people, and while there’s no cure, treatments like blood pressure medications, dietary changes, and lifestyle adjustments can help manage symptoms and protect kidney function.
